I love this so much! He did seem to fit in perfectly, but I admire that you were looking towards a different future. I know it didn't make it any easier, especially with the pressure to keep him from comments on your posts. But you have a passion for helping and fostering dogs, and I think that's special. When I saw the pic of Simon and Luc in the back yard, I thought, if I were in your shoes, I'd keep a collage of photos of all the fosters with Simon. A reminder of all the little lives you, Jacob, and Simon have touched and made better. Can't wait to "meet" this next lucky pup!
I love it when you get a new foster, it reminds me that all dogs are awesome and so different. And Simon is the absolute best foster brother! My dog would have lost his mind over sweet, clingy Ken! I think Ken was the clingy one. 😅
Please tell Simon he is the best boy and #1 foster brother
I cry at the thought of these poor dogs who are stuck in shelters & my heart shatters for the ones who lose their lives because humans have displaced them. You are such an inspiration with your fostering journey that I have began trying to convince my fiancé that our house is in fact the perfect place for death row animals who just need a little more time to find the right home. He’s not 100% sold yet, but I’m persistent! Thank you for all that you do for the pets, they deserve it more than anyone.
Ahhh this was my favorite thing I've read all morning! Nobody knows it but the REAL reason I'm Substacking is so I can eventually live in a place where I can foster 😊 My biggest fear is that every single one of them will become a foster fail lol!
You're doing great things! This was so uplifting 🙌 ❤️
Isabelle, that must have been so hard! I really felt the conflict within you. I love that you can see the big picture though. You have such a big platform to help so many dogs get adopted and that is so amazing that you are putting that first! Thanks for sharing your journey with us! Also, I'm following Lucca and he looks very happy in his new home with his scruffy siblings!
I hear you! My 21st foster dog just got his furever home. I haven't foster-failed so far because I already have two dogs, and three would mean being unable to foster anymore. I'm thankful that knowing my limits prevents me from becoming a deranged dog hoarder.
I will always be supportive of fostering. Hopefully balancing all the "oh, you have to keep him" comments. You are a place where they learn to trust again. Thank you! 💜
As cheesy as this may sound, dogs like Luc just prove to us there are SO many wonderful dogs out there deserving of loving homes and just how easy it is to fall in love them. I'm so impressed with the decision you made. I adopted my third dog earlier this year, and while I have no doubts that we are the right home for her and she is very happy with us, fostering -- something I always wanted to do but never found the right "time" -- is no longer feasible. That was the difficult choice I had to make when I fell in love with her like how Luc's new mom Stacey fell in love at first sight. She was shutdown and petrified at a high-euthanasia shelter in Roswell NM and suffers from severe PTSD from her previous life; it is clear that humans did not handle her nicely. A CO-based rescue pulled her from the shelter and that's how i found her. We've had her six months and she still has a lot of challenges, but I'm so grateful to her foster mom for setting her up for success and helping her blossom outside of the stressful shelter environment. I volunteer at my local shelter as a dog walker to help set those dogs up for adoption but always wish I could do more. You won't regret your decision to let Luc find his forever home <3
You and Jacob are such great foster dog parents, I’m glad you’re able to continue to foster. Even better is that you gave Luc a chance to go to the perfect forever home ❤️❤️❤️

You’re doing an amazing thing. Love hearing and seeing about the new fosters and how many people you have helped to foster now!

Seriously you, Jacob and Simon are so beyond awesome for fostering 💚

Dog fosters are unsung heroes. Thank you for sharing this story, and for the work that you do!
Isabel love your pieces - your Substack seems to be the closest to my writings on managing my dog’s struggle with mitral valve disease that I’ve found ... https://open.substack.com/pub/ethanchorin/p/the-one-dog-diagnosis?r=fuoi1&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
